Susan
Dakin has over 20 years experience as a technical and scientific
writer and editor. An independent consultant since 1984, she is
one of North Carolinas most highly regarded technical communicators.
Dr.
Dakin holds a Ph.D. in Zoology from Duke University, with training
in the biological, physical, and social sciences and in statistics.
She has written and edited documents in a wide range of disciplines
in the life, environmental, and physical sciences and engineering.
As an editor, she draws on her broad science background to strengthen
substance and organization, as well as writing quality and style.
Dr. Dakin has special expertise in proposal writing and has
served as proposal editor and coordinator for large federal contract
and grant proposals. She also often applies her design and desktop
publishing skills to her writing and editing projects.
An
influential teacher of scientific, technical, and business writing,
Dr. Dakin has taught technical and scientific writing for Duke
Continuing Education since 1982 and has presented over 100 writing
courses and workshops for businesses, government agencies, and other
organizations. While serving on the Board of the North Carolina
Writers Network, she was instrumental in establishing Networks
Center for Business and Technical Writing and developed a teacher
training program for the Center. She is editor and principal author
of Writing Skills for Business Professionals, published by
the Network.
